Moon Nova is a scientific working group established by the European Space Agency (ESA) in 2009. Its main focus is to enhance the scientific output of the ESA Moon exploration programs, namely the Smart Lander for Exploration and Moon Preparation (SLEEP) and the Lunar Pathfinder (LPF) missions, as well as future ESA lunar exploration initiatives. The group brings together internationally recognized scientists and experts in lunar exploration, geology, geochemistry, and planetary physics to analyze and interpret data obtained from these missions. Moon Nova aims to gain a deeper understanding of the lunar environment, geological history, and potential resources for future exploration and scientific research, as well as to develop new data analysis techniques and instruments for lunar exploration. In addition to its scientific agenda, Moon Nova also supports capacity building and knowledge transfer in lunar exploration through the organization of workshops, training sessions, and internships for early career scientists and engineers from ESA Member States and Partner countries.Overall, Moon Nova plays a critical role in advancing scientific knowledge and enhancing the European expertise in lunar research and exploration, which will pave the way for future collaborations and initiatives in exploring our Moon and beyond.
