The Coral MC-88 E is a high-performance microcomputer introduced by Coral Computer Products, Inc. In 1979. It featured an Intel 8088 CPU running at 5 MHz, a 64 KB RAM expandable up to 2 MB, and an Intel 8255 PPI (Programmable Peripheral Interface) chip for serial and parallel I/O. The Coral MC-88 E also included an optional 1200 or 2400 baud modem and a built-in clock generator for RS-232 communications. This microcomputer was designed for business, scientific, and engineering applications and was one of the first personal computers to include a hard disk drive (HDD) option, which provided fast and reliable data storage.
