Brand: AMC

The AMC XIA50 was a planned Chinese-American joint venture vehicle that was announced in 1983. It was developed by the American Motors Corporation (AMC) and the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) in China. The XIA50 was a large, luxurious sedan that was intended to compete with other premium vehicles in the Chinese market. It was based on AMC's Eagle platform and featured many of the same components, such as the engine and transmission. However, the XIA50 project never came to fruition. AMC faced financial difficulties in the mid-1980s, and the company was eventually acquired by Chrysler Corporation in 1987. The XIA50 project was shelved as a result, and the concept vehicle was never produced in significant numbers.Today, SAIC produces its own line of vehicles, including the MG and Roewe brands, which are sold in China and around the world. The XIA50 serves as an interesting footnote in the history of China's auto industry and the attempt by foreign carmakers to enter the domestic market during a time of economic reform in the country.
