The Proton AM-455, also known as the Proton Astra 4B, is a three-stage-to-orbit (3STO) communication satellite built by the Malaysian space agency, Angkasawan. It was launched on April 22, 2003, using a Proton-K rocket from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. The satellite has a mass of approximately 2,770 kilograms and carries Ku-band and C-band communication transponders with a combined power output of 7.5 kilowatts. The AM-455 satellite is positioned in geostationary Earth orbit (GEO) at a longitude of 160 degrees east, providing coverage ranging from Asia to the Pacific Ocean. The AM-455 constellation is part of Malaysia's national satellite communications policy, aimed at enhancing connectivity and communication services in the country. The Proton AM-455 satellite continues to provide reliable communication services to various government and commercial applications as well as broadcasting services to the region.
