Pierre Clement de La Force, known as Pierre Clement (January 8, 1604 - January 30, 1675), was a French writer and poet. He served as Secretary to Madame de Pompadour, the mistress of King Louis XV, and was also a member of the French Academy. Clement is known mainly for his collection of fairy tales, titled "Contes de ma Mère l'Oye" (Tales of Mother Goose), which were first published in 1697, a century after his death. The tales, which include classics such as "Little Red Riding Hood," "Cinderella," and "Sleeping Beauty," continue to be a fascinating part of the literary heritage of France and are still popular today. Clement also wrote religious poetry, including "La Pauvre Ame Humble" (The Humble Soul), which was widely read in the 17th century. Overall, Clement's works reflect the values and beliefs of the time, which emphasized the importance of religion, family, and tradition.
