The National RQ-554 is a medium-altitude long-endurance (MALE) unmanned aerial system (UAS) developed by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (ULL) and the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) with funding from the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) and the Office of Naval Research (ONR). It is designed to perform a variety of surveillance and reconnaissance missions for the United States Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard in various Operational Environmental Missions (OEMs), including marine operations, counter-drug, counter-piracy, and search and rescue operations. The National RQ-554 can also execute maritime domain awareness (MDA) operations and support weather monitoring and natural disaster response efforts.
