Brand: HH Scott

The HH Scott 130 was a high-performance, single-seat fighter aircraft developed by the HH Scott Aircraft Company in the United States during the interwar period. It was designed to meet the needs of the US Navy for a fast and agile fighter to replace its aging Curtiss F8C Hellenger aircraft. The HH Scott 130 featured a sleek, low-wing monoplane design with a fuselage made of welded steel tubing covered in fabric. The wings had a moderate dihedral angle and also used steel tubing for the spars. The aircraft was powered by a Pratt & Whitney R-1340-13 engine, which could deliver over 600 horsepower and provided an impressive top speed of around 255 miles per hour. The HH Scott 130 was armed with two wing-mounted fixed 0.30 caliber (7.62mm) machine guns and carried a total of up to six drop tanks, giving it a range of over 800 miles. The aircraft was also fitted with a retractable landing gear, offering significant improvements in speed and agility over previous fixed undercarriage designs. The HH Scott 130 entered service with the US Navy in 1934 but was quickly overshadowed by more modern designs such as the famed Grumman F4F Wildcat. Still, the HH Scott 130 did see some combat action during the Spanish Civil War, where it was used by both Nationalist and Republican forces.Overall, the HH Scott 130 was a transitional design intended to meet the needs of the navy in a period of transition from biplane to monoplane aircraft. While it wasn't particularly successful in that role, it remains a noteworthy aircraft for its advanced features, such as the retractable landing gear, which paved the way for future innovations in fighter design.
