Brand: Technics

The Technics SA-956 is an integrated amplifier that was produced by the Japanese electronics company, Matsushita (now Panasonic), under their Technics brand. It was introduced in 1982 and quickly gained a reputation as a high-performing and versatile amplifier, thanks in part to its balance of power, detail, and musicality. Some key technical features of the SA-956 include:- Twin monaural construction, which separates the left and right channels to ensure dead-quiet backgrounds and minimize interference between channels.- New Comprehensive Direct (N.C.D.) circuit technology, which emphasizes direct signal paths and minimizes negative feedback to improve signal purity.- Use of high-quality components, such as copper-plated chassis, von Duprin relays, and precision-matched resistors and capacitors, to minimize noise and distortion.- Selectable input impedance (47k ohms, 100k ohms), which allows the user to match the amp's input impedance to that of their signals sources for optimal performance.- Sensitivity switch (Moving Magnet, Moving Coil), which allows the user to switch between higher output MC cartridges and lower output MM cartridges without needing to change the impedance loading.- Variable tone control (treble, bass), which allows the user to adjust the balance of high and low frequencies to suit their preferences.- Nine-watt, multipole vestical heater, which provides stable temperature control and reduces transmission-type hum.Overall, the Technics SA-956 is regarded as a high-performance, high-value amplifier that strikes a fine balance between power, detail, and musicality. It has received critical acclaim and Awards, including being listed as one of the Top 100 Amplifiers of All Time by The Absolute Sound magazine. Although it is no longer in production, it continues to be a sought-after vintage amplifier among audiophiles and collectors.
