The Spectral DMC-10 is a type of mass spectrometer used for high-resolution mass analysis and structural elucidation of complex molecules. It operates based on the principle of Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FTICR), which allows it to provide accurate mass measurements and structural information with high resolution and mass accuracy.In the Spectral DMC-10, the ions produced in an electrospray ionization (ESI) source are introduced into a Superconducting Polaris Diamagnetically Coupled (SPDC)-type FTICR cell, where they undergo repetitive cycling in a strong magnetic field. During this process, the cyclic motion of the ions produces a characteristic ring current, which is detected by the cell's superconducting pick-up coil for signal acquisition. The frequency of the ring current is directly related to the mass-to-charge ratio (m/z) and cyclic time (u) of the ions.The Spectral DMC-10 is particularly suitable for the analysis of large biomolecules such as proteins, peptides, and lipids, as it provides ultra-high mass resolution and mass accuracy, as well as sub-ppm accuracy in m/z detection. It can also perform structural spectra at low energy collisional dissociation (HCD), high energy collisional dissociation (HCD), and electron transfer dissociation (ETD) modes, revealing the primary, secondary, and tertiary structural features of biomolecules. Furthermore, it features automation for faster turnaround time for batch-analysis modes.
