Brand: Quad

The Quad QMP (Quad Phase-Matching) is an audio processing technology developed by the British audio company, Quad. Its purpose is to enhance the performance of surround sound systems by accurately aligning and phasing the sound signals from each speaker, resulting in better spatial imaging and a more convincing 3D audio experience. In a surround sound system, there are multiple speakers positioned around the audience, each playing a specific audio signal. However, due to differences in the speaker's acoustic characteristics, as well as the listening position, the signals arriving at the listener's ears may not be perfectly synchronized or positioned, leading to a loss of clarity and spatial detail. The QMP technology addresses this issue by employing a sophisticated signal processing algorithm that first combines and aligns the front, center, and surround signals into a single coherent output, and then applies time and phase corrections to each speaker signal individually, based on the listener's location. The result is a more coherent and spatially accurate soundstage, with improved localization and stereo imaging, as well as greater low-frequency impact and clarity due to reduced room mode interference. The QMP technology can be found in Quad's high-end AV processors and amplifiers, such as the Arc Dream MkII and Towers, providing a significant upgrade to the performance of compatible surround sound systems. In summary, the Quad QMP technology is an innovative audio processing technique that provides a significant improvement in spatial accuracy, coherence, and detail, resulting in a more immersive and enjoyable audio experience.
