The Hitachi PS-12 is an optical disc drives (ODD) device produced by Hitachi, now a part of Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (GST), a subsidiary of Western Digital Corporation. Launched in 1989, the PS-12 was one of the earliest commercially available CD-ROM drives that followed the Yellow Book standard for reading CD-ROMs. It had a read-only capacity of 520 kilobytes per second (kbps) and alternatively, a read-write capacity of up to 300 kbps through the use of a proprietary Fast-Write System VI chip.
