Brand: Ess

The ESS AMT 1D is a thin-film, iron-based superconducting material developed by Oxford Superconductor Technologies (OST) and licensed to ESS AMC for use in their superconducting magnets. The material boasts a critical temperature (Tc) of about 120 K (-153°C) – which is relatively high for an iron-based superconductor – and a critical magnetic field (Bc2) of approximately 25-30 Tesla. These properties make it an attractive choice for use in high-field superconducting magnets, such as those used in particle accelerators like the one being built by ESS in Sweden. The advantage of the ESS AMT 1D material is its potential to reduce the size, weight, and cost of these magnets, as higher operating temperatures could make it possible to use less expensive cryogenic refrigeration systems.
