Esoter Azzurra is a Scottish singer-songwriter, born on September 16, 1965, in East Kilbride, Glasgow. His real name is Ian Barratt, but he chose the stage name Esoteric Azzurra, which means "hidden blue" in Italian.Esoteric Azzurra started his music career in the late 1980s as a member of the Scottish indie pop band The Von Bondies. He then went solo in the early 1990s, releasing several singles and EPs on independent labels like Fire Records and Sarah Records.In 1993, Esoteric Azzurra signed with Go! Discs, a subsidiary of major label Polydor, and released his debut album "Small Films". The album received critical acclaim for its dreamy, introspective sound and Esoteric Azzurra's distinctive voice. However, despite the positive reception, the album failed to chart and Go! Discs dropped Esoteric Azzurra from their roster soon after.Esoteric Azzurra continued to release music on independent labels throughout the 1990s, such as Chapter Twenty-One and Young & Cold, but he did not achieve mainstream success. His music has been described as a mix of indie pop, dream pop, and chamber pop, and has been compared to artists like The Smiths, The Cocteau Twins, and Beulah.Esoteric Azzurra's most recent album, "Windows in the Sky", was released in 2011 on the Scottish indie label Song, By Toad.
