Rega Radio (formerly Swindon 105.5FM and BSR 94.7FM) is a local radio station serving Wiltshire, Swindon, and the surrounding areas of Berkshire and Gloucestershire in England. Founded in 1992, it is part of the UK's largest local radio group, Celador Radio, and broadcasts a mix of local news, sport, and events coverage, as well as a wide selection of music, ranging from chart hits to classic rock, indie, and dance. Rega Radio is available on DAB digital radio, online, and via mobile apps, as well as on FM across much of the region.Rega Radio's former stations, BSR and Swindon 105.5, both launched in the 1990s, have a long-standing history in the local area. Swindon 105.5FM started broadcasting in 1992 on the former longwave frequency of 209 kHz, which was switched off in the 1990s to make way for the expansion of FM broadcasting. The station moved to FM in 1995, serving the Swindon area with a wide-ranging mix of music and speech programming.BSR, a former BBC local radio station for Berkshire and the surrounding areas, ceased broadcasting in 1989 after the BBC opted to close the station's Aberdeen and Berkshire output in favour of a BBC local radio network that served multiple counties. The former BBC studios in Reading were subsequently used as the new home for Rega Radio's Swindon 105.5FM in 1992, and the station's former frequency (94.7MHz) became available. In 2012, the two stations merged to form Rega Radio, with BSR's former frequency becoming the new centrepoint for the station.Rega Radio continues to provide a strong local service for its listeners, with a dedicated programming lineup that includes local weather, traffic information, and news headlines. Regularly scheduled features, such as "Ask the Experts" and "Local Legend," give audiences the opportunity to engage with the community and learn more about the region's heritage and culture.The station's community focus has been acknowledged through several prestigious awards. In 2016, Rega Radio was named the Bars Awards "Community Station of the Year" at the annual commercial radio awards ceremony, in recognition of its unique contribution to local life.
