Brand: Muse

The MUSE (Multi-element Spatio-spectral Imager) M-28 RD (Rough Demonstrator) is a ground-based astronomical instrument that captures high-resolution images and spectra of celestial objects in the near-infrared range of the electromagnetic spectrum. It consists of 17 classical HgCdTe detector arrays, each with a resolution of up to 2048x2048 pixels, for a total of over 34 million pixels. The M-28 RD version of MUSE was developed as a precursor to the full MUSE instrument, which will be installed on the Very Large Telescope (VLT) in Chile in 2014. The M-28 RD has been used for scientific observations at the La Silla Observatory in Chile since 2011, and has proven to be a powerful instrument for studying the chemistry, dynamics, and evolution of galaxies and other astronomical objects.
