Brand: Miyajima

Miyajima Kotetu is a historicтой building located on the island of Miyajima in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. The building was originally a temple called Daishoin, which was built in the 16th century during the Azuchi-Momoyama period. Over time, the building underwent several renovations and transformations, becoming a government furnishings store during the Meiji period and eventually falling into disuse and disrepair. In the 1960s, the building was taken under the wing of the Okayama University Architecture Department, who carried out extensive restoration work to preserve its historic architecture and culture. The building was renamed Kotetu, which means "decadent construction" in Japanese, in recognition of its unique blend of traditional and modern design elements.Today, Miyajima Kotetu serves as a cultural center and museum, showcasing the island's history and heritage through exhibitions, workshops, and events. Its black lacquer walls, white tiled roof, and distinctive wooden lattice facade make it an iconic symbol of Miyajima's rich cultural heritage, and it is popular among both locals and tourists alike as a testament to Japan's unique blend of tradition and innovation.
