Lyra Parnassus is a constellation located in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is not one of the 88 modern constellations recognized by the International Astronomical Union (IAU), but rather a historical constellation that is no longer commonly used by astronomers.The constellation was first introduced by the astronomer Ptolemy in his second-century work, the Almagest. It was named after the Parnassus mountain in Greece, associated with the Muses, the goddesses of inspiration in Greek mythology.Lyra Parnassus is also known as the Lyre of Orpheus, a legendary musician and poet in Greek mythology who was said to play a lyre (a stringed musical instrument) during his journeys to the underworld.Today, the three brightest stars that once formed Lyra Parnassus now belong to the constellation Lyra, which represents the instrument Lyre. Despite its historical significance, Lyra Parnassus is no longer widely recognized or used in astronomy.
