EC-1, also known as the Lockheed C-121 Constellation, is a four-engine turboprop aircraft that was introduced in the late 1950s as a replacement for the propeller-driven C-121. It was primarily used by the US Air Force (USAF) for transporting troops, cargo, and equipment, as well as for repatriating prisoners of war and wounded soldiers during conflicts. The EC-1 also served as a surveillance platform, equipped with advanced radar and intelligence gathering systems for reconnaissance missions. Some EC-1 aircraft were also used by the CIA for covert operations in the Cold War era. The USAF retired the EC-1 in the late 1960s, but some countries continue to operate similar aircraft for transport and surveillance purposes.
