Brand: Creek

The P42 is a type of steam locomotive that was developed for the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway (also known as the Santa Fe) in the early 1940s. Designed by the American locomotive manufacturer, Baldwin Locomotive Works, the P42 was a variation of the earlier P30-class locomotives that Santa Fe had been using since the 1920s. The P42 was notable for its improved power, durability, and efficiency, making it a popular choice for mainline freight service in the post-World War II era. Over 1,200 P42 locomotives were built by Baldwin and later by the Lima Locomotive Works, with many examples still in use today on heritage railroads and tourist lines. The P42 played a significant role in the history of rail transportation in the United States, helping to move the materials and people that were vital to the country's post-war economic growth.
